We just concluded our first trip to Chichicastenango, Guatemala as an official nonprofit organization. The trip had been planned for two months, but we were pleasantly surprised to receive our 501c3 status from the IRS just days before my departure. The purpose of the trip was to find a nice, safe location for our library for children and teens and to source authentic Guatemalan items from trusted sellers to sell to raise money for the organization.

We found our library's home very early in the trip. I had looked at another property a little further out of central Chichicastenango that was very spacious and convenient for public transportation. But our ultimate location is a new construction that will be ready for us in August. It has two levels. It has a large living area, a kitchen and a bathroom on the first level and three bedrooms with an additional bathroom on the second level. The space is perfect and was actually less expensive than the first. The location is quiet and central and is in a "gated community" of other homes. In my humble opinion, it is perfect!

I was also able to find lots of beautiful Guatemalan items, all handmade by local artisans! Selling Guatemalan goods is a two fold benefit for the people of the small villages. First we are buying from a local maker and second, we are selling items and investing the profits back into the communities. Please browse our shop and consider purchasing an item.

I am excited to share that everything that I have ever hoped for for our organization is falling into place and becoming a reality! Reach out if you or anyone you know is interested in learning about our mission or is interested in volunteering. Adios por ahora!
