Our little library has now been open for almost three months and I am happy to say that the community of Chichicastenango has embraced us with open arms. We have such a clean and safe place for children to congregate and learn, many local groups including schools and organizations have visited and requested to collaborate with us to do children's projects. In mid September, our librarian was interviewed by a local organization, Chichicastenango Impresionante. See the link :https://www.facebook.com/reel/1500470830964212

On October 1, 2025, we celebrated Dia de los Niños at the library. This is a day for kids not unlike Mother's Day or Father's Day celebrated in Guatemala. We had a storyteller, crafts and snacks for the kids.

On Halloween we had another event celebrating not just Halloween, but also Día de los Muertos and Día de todo los Santos. Zila is doing a great job thinking of activities for the kids and then hosting the event. We had two storytellers, more activities and of course more snacks. We are really becoming a fixture in the community. The kids look forward to the next event!

And not only have we hosted these two amazing events, but we regularly host entire classrooms of children with their teachers to come and read our books. Our collection is quite vast compared to the school libraries.

When we started La Casita de los Libros, we had no idea that we had started a beautiful phenomenon. La Casita has quickly become THE place to be for children and their parents in Chichicastenango!

Looking forward to more exciting events to come including our January week of fun with a different activity each day, from storytelling to Rubix cube class to crafts to movie night! Thank you to everyone who has made this little gem a reality!

XO Patti
