Library Up and Running!

We have been open for almost three weeks and La Casita de los Libros is a huge success. The first week was a little slow, but visits have increased exponentially and we have even had teachers bring whole classes to the library to browse the books and get excited about reading. We are just getting started but the library already has 445 followers on Facebook and Zila (our librarian) has done a phenomenal job getting the word out. There is so much passion and excitement for this project from Zila and our board of directors. And so much support and excitement from the community of Chichicastenango. Of course all of this has been made possible by our donors and our fabulous board of directors. Each and every one of us has a legitimate personal and emotional investment in the library. Thank you to everyone who made this dream a reality. As the library collection grows, we will be instituting a lending system. And we are currently working hard to implement a calendar of fun events for the kids and the entire community!
